A shared love of melodic, Brit-inspired pop brought three friends together in July of 2000 and Tonefarmer suddenly came into the world…with barely a murmur.

Shortly after the band's inception, Rob Hamrick (guitar, synths, vocals), John Miracle (drums, percussion, vocals) and Chris Mundy (bass, piano, vocals) cocooned themselves in their practice space and crafted their debut album, "Recreation" (2001) recorded mainly at Cincinnati’s Ultrasuede studio with Afghan Whig's bassist John Curley as Engineer and Co-producer.

Through intensive gig support, Recreation went on to earn Tonefarmer numerous regional accolades and shows including a Cincinnati Enquirer CAMMY Award, a CityBeat CEA Award nomination, recognition as one the top-20 unsigned artists curated by WOXY FM (woxy.com) and invitations to perform at many high-exposure events in and around Cincinnati.

Over in the U.K., the prestigious web music presence, PeopleSound.co.uk also took notice, frequently including the band with its top 20 Best Artists.

The call of the U.K. beckoned ever more loudly and after several months of writing, rehearsing, and planning, Tonefarmer found themselves ensconced at The Dairy Studio London, UK for a week-long recording session with in-demand Engineer/Producer Pete Lewis (Pulp, Sting, Everything But the Girl, Goldfrapp, Massive Attack).
The resulting album, "Where You Go" (2003) was a new songwriting and production high water mark for the band.

Later that same year, the band returned to the studio yet again, this time locally, with acclaimed Producer-Engineer, Ashley Shepherd (Peter Frampton, Bad Veins, Blessid Union of Souls) to record the acousto-prog tinged EP, "Serotonin" (2004) an electronic-version-only release, via Bandcamp.

By 2005, Tonefarmer had become a more streamlined organization - morphing from a trio to a duo - and for the next several years, Rob Hamrick and Chris Mundy headlined numerous shows in that format while spending time behind the scenes writing and recording a massive collection of new songs. The result of their efforts was "Meanwhile" (2007) an expansive and sonically ambitious release that set the group on an entirely new musical course... and prompted the search for a NEW third member.

Noted Cincinnati guitarist-song-writer, Kevin Welch proved to be the missing link, joining forces with Tonefarmer in late 2006, a few months ahead of Meanwhile's official release. A natural fit for the band, Welch quickly assumed a primary role in shaping Tonefarmer's sound. His expansive guitar work takes center stage within many of the band's most recent compositions and his sharing of lead vocal duties with Hamrick further expands the group's range.

A proper trio once again, Hamrick, Welch and Mundy continue to enlist the services of some of Cincinnati's most celebrated drummers for live shows and recording. Notables include Brandon Schlunt (Noctaluca, Incendium Arts) Todd Drake (Ruby Vileos, Nathan Holscher, The Hiders, Magnolia Mountain), as well as founding member, John Miracle (SHAG, Soul Pocket, Adrian Borland).

In spring 2011, with Todd Drake behind the kit, Tonefarmer teamed once again with Producer-Engineer John Curley at Ultrasuede and set about recording their fifth studio effort. The resulting 10 track full length Helium 3 is set for release on September 14th.
